No Sound On Computer

Hi, the sound on my computer does not work, I am using windows xp, I have no speakers only a headphone socket, I want to try and fix it myself, can anybody help please.

Has it ever worked poppy or disappeared? Is the mute button pressed on your keyboard? Have you got the headphones plugged into the correct socket? Has your computer been set to recognise the headphones? A few questions to start you off.

Yes, it has worked, earphones are plugged into right socket. when I try and play something the screen says there is a problem with the media player. thanks
Okay poppy your media player problem is a further issue. Repost with a different thread and explain your problem, which system you are using etc and the message you are getting. If you do it handy buenchito is live and will whizz you through.
You could try reinstalling Media Player.

Media player is a resource hog and cannot play all formats of file. VLC media player is free and much better.
