here's one that I can't crack, I remember Ray Brooks (I think that's his name, he did the voice for Mr Benn) starring in a programme in the eighties where he was a card player/gambler sort. Anybody remember what it was called?

Think it was "Big Deal"?

Big Deal! Of Course! Did it have a catchy signature tune?
I don't remember the theme tune, but I do remember it was sung by one of the male members of Bucks Fizz
Yes, it was written and recorded by Bobby Gee (Gubby). Ray Brooks, who played main character Robbie Box, is now one of the most in-demand actors for advert voiceovers.

I live in Brighton and have seen Ray Brooks at a local Casino quite a few times I was quite drunk once and asked him how Robbie (box) would play it (blackjack)

he said he would probably lose the lot, I then said 'as if by magic the ace appeared' in reference to a Mr Benn quote , he then told me to shut up with a smile though

and when I mentioned Cathy come home he raised he eyes and went to play roulette I woke up the next morning  feeling quite embarressed .

I've never met Ray Brooks but I did meet Martin Shaw once. I was working as a room service waitress in a hotel and he ordered a vast array of vegetarian foods which I had to whip up at an ungodly hour. I wheeled a trolley up to his suite and he opened the door, wearing dressing gown, bubbly perm and sullen features and he didn't give me a tip. I gave him one though, get the bonce cut tout suite and stop rolling over the bonnets of cars, its not big and its not clever.

My best friends dad wrote the music for Mr Benn and yes Ray Brooks did star in Big Deal.
