my daughter, 42 had her second sudden collapsed lung six weeks ago.. Her xray on tuesday showed her lung has now reinflated. but she has a cold and a nasty cough.. She is worried sick the cough will make her lung go again? is this likely. many thanks

Sqad

Not much to go on, but it is likely that your daughter had a ruptured bullous of the lung which caused her problem. There are many causes, but the commonest by far is an emphysematous bulla caused by smoking.

It is possible that coughing may cause another bullous to rupture, but unlikely in your daughter's case as it ruptured only six months ago.

Thankyou sqad.. it was six weeks ago tomorrow and was caused through smoking...although this time she has definitely given up..so hasnt smkoed since..many thanks dont know what we would do with out you . Brenda x
