Water once you fill it up.

The cartridge is full of harmless carbon granules which absorb the nasties.

The cartridges use tiny granules of two ingredients: activated carbon, made from ground coconut husk, and ion exchange resin. The activated carbon adsorbs additives like chlorine and organic impurities, while the ion exchange resin draws out temporary hardness (limescale) from the water as well as heavy metals such as lead, copper and aluminium.
