The Raf Made My Day
20 Answers
I've had my very own fly past from the RAF SAR Helicopter, this morning.!!!!!
I was alone in a field with my dog Toby, and I saw it flying towards Alnwick. As I watched, it banked around and came back towards me. The door opened and the crewman waved. I madly waved back.
It has made my day!!!!!
Goodbye 202 Squadron and thank you for all your good work over the years.

I know for a fact that they used to fly over the dunes on Saunton Beach so that they look look at the topless sunbathers!
We lost our RAF 22 Squadron S&R helicopters (based just down the road from me, at Wattisham) in mid-August. Now all we get is the Suffolk Police Helicopter (which regularly wakes people up by flying low overhead during the night) plus loads of army helicopters (which can make it sound like a scene from the film M*A*S*H when there's a big exercise on!):

I have never been to Boulmer but in 1968 I did a short detachment to RAF Acklington. It was an old-fashioned station even then. None of the telephones had dials, you had to pick up and ask the operator for the extension you wanted. If there were two telephones on the same extension you would specify one ring or two rings. It was also the one and only time I came face to face with sergeant-pilots, as latterly all pilots had to be commissioned officers. I also remember the Working Men's club in Red Row, who always welcomed us. The place is now HMP Castington, a young offenders' institution. What a comedown!
Here's, said helicopter saying goodbye to my home town of Alnwick on, Saturday.
