Made this using a recipe I googled which was okay but felt it could be better. Mainly used ketchup and pineapple juice but no vinegar. Found a few recipes that used vinegar so will try next time. Has anyone got a recipe that they swear by?

A useful hint when searching for recipes: Add 'bbc good food' to your search terms.

That's because the recipes on the BBC Good Food website all have reviews from people who've actually tried them (often including suggestions for varying, or improving, the original recipe).

These might be worth taking a look at:

I use this recipe by Ken Hom, it never fails.

150ml chicken stock
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp dark soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
1½ tbsps Chinese white rice vinegar or cider vinegar
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsps tomato purée or ketchup
½ tsp salt and 1 tsp white pepper
2 tsps cornflour
An alternative recipe is equal amounts of vinegar and orange juice, a tin of pineapple chunks in its own juice, a pinch of 5-spice, tomato purée and brown sugar.
