A conveyancer is a general term for a lawyer who does legal work for buying and selling residential property, be they a solicitor, legal executive, licensed conveyancer or paralegal. Lots of different terms but they do the same work.

Erm I'm not wrong. It's a very common term used in the business, which I was in for a good few years. Conveyancing is used as a broad term for the sale and purchase of residential property, similar with conveyancers for those who do it.
I'm not getting into an argument about why you should use lawyers but, even having done the job myself, would I use a lawyer for my own conveyancing, yes I would.
