Chocolate coins (booty)

Treasure maps (find the buried treasure in the back garden, house etc)

Im sure you can do something along the lines of "walking the plank"......maybe a bit of wood on the ground etc

Im sure you can rope in someone to dress up as Long john Silver...hopping around...with a toy parrot on his shoulder

one game to get the kids moving. Give them all a sheet of newspaper - preferably a broadsheet. Play some music and they have to all have a wee boogie. When the music stops they have to fold their sheet of paper in half, put it backon the ground and stand on it. you can do it so the last to do it is out, or the one that moves is out. Then start the music again. As the paper gets smaller and smaller they will be having to balance on one foot, then on tiptoes and ultimately ends up a right giggle!. You can then use the newspaper to make a pirates hat out of http://www.ehow.com/how_414_make-paper-hat.htm l

Buy cardboard miniature treasure chests from craft shops and get the kids to decorate them and/or fill them with goodies as a party bag.
we did this for my son when he was about the same age. We drew a grid on a piece of card and drew a treasure map on it...then we decided where the treasure was going to be and put a lovely big cross...we then blind-folded the kids one at a time and did a "pin the tail on the donkey" type thing but they have to pin the closest to the treasure cross....winner won a bag of chocolate coins

if you are brave enough to attempt to make your own cake check out the pirate cakes on

To Drusilla1S - don't worry about it & thanks for your ideas

For a pirate ship cake, bake an ordinary round sponge, 1 inch or so deep. Cut in half across a diameter so you have 2 semicircles. Stick together with icing and cut a small amount off the "bottom" parallel to the diameter for the cake to stand on. Put blue icing on a cake board, cover cake with brown icing and place on top of blue. Use lolly sticks and paper to make sails and the plank and Lego pirates to man the ship.

We made a pirate ship in the garden using our rectangular paddling pool, sheets and a plastic dustbin lid for the ship's wheel. Shark's fins stuck into the ground also went down very well.

Asda have a pirate treasure chest pinata in their party section which is filled and then batted, we sold lots of them in our party shop years ago,

Get eye patches from a chemist for the participants, and toy swords from various pound shops, print out a skull and cross bones from the internet and use them to decorate the room, a treasure hunt is a good idea, give each of them a name from treasure island and put up a list on the wall then they have to discover who they are.

For musical chairs, ships etc play the pirate king song from the Pirates of Penzance and stop it occassionally, consider joke tattoos or face paints
