Why when we watch the national news and international news - do we need 2 presenters. That truly baffles me.

and a whole swathe of "correspondents" (what happened to simply 'reporters'?) who insist on doing a piece to camera and waving their hands around!!

Apparently photogenic reporters can read but not write!

It`s the same in America and over there, they can`t show a news report without making some inane comment afterwards. The teeth are much whiter in the States though.

and why do they need two presenters for the weather and traffic? Our local station has two presenters for the 'riveting' local news then another for the weather then we go over to 'whoever' for the traffic news -incredible!

I think the idea is it adds interest- the same voice for 30 minutes can become a bit monotonous. And some viewers prefer a man, others a woman- so they usually try to please both groups

oh yes the 'bad weather' report with some stupid corespondent getting blown away in front of 10 ft waves -yes we get the picture -its bad weather - we don't need proof!

and why do BBC Five Live feel the need to have 2 commentators and an 'expert' summerizer for their radio football matches, yet the BBC Match of the Day only have one commentator, what a complete waste of money!!

Well I am currently watching BBC news and that has one presenter.
So do most of the need programmes I can think of. But I can't see why it's such a big issue
MOTD has only one commentator because they only do highlights. When they are live they have a summariser too which makes sense.

Also worth pointing out that radio commentary is a lot more intense. So it seems reasonable for 2 commentators to take it in turns.

I agree about having 2 news readers, but what gets me mad is when the weather forecasters tell us what the morning or last nights weather was, we know we are here.

The local BBC were doing a report on traffic on the news and went from the studio to a reporter in the street outside the building in Ormeau Avenue.

I daresay local radio can't afford it I do remember dear old Max Roberstson doing the tennis: he was amazing, and no tennis commentator I have heard since even tries to come close to his commentaries.
I must say I can't really understand though why people get so worked up about this. Would be all have more shillings in our pockets if there were fewer presenters on TV and radio? I don't think so.

Why do cricket commentators change shifts every few overs? That sounds like a big jolly to me. They all go out on the razz afterwards.
Tennis commentators usually stay for a whole match, at least.
