Driving Without A Licence/Insurance

Hi

Does anyone know what the penalty is if you get caught driving without a licence or insurance for the second time? First time round you get a fine and a ban, will the courts issue the same a second time or can they issue imprisonment?

Longer ban, bigger fine, 9 points probably. They can jail you but they probably won't

You cannot be imprisoned for driving without a licence or insurance. In fact, there are very few motoring offences for which you can be jailed. The only ones I can think of immediately are Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, Dangerous Driving, Driving whilst Disqualified, Excess Alcohol (and the associated Refusal to Provide a specimen) and failing to stop/report an accident.

The maximum penalty for No Insurance is a fine of �5,000 (though magistrates cannot simply impose this - they have to have regard for your means). Curfew Orders and Community Rehabilitation Orders are also available to magistrates form this offence, but are rarely used.

The most likely outcome in your case is that you will receive a longer disqualification and a heavier fine than you got last time.

would be put away if it were up to me. If you dont have licence, you should be driving. If you dont have insurance...YOU SHOULDNT BE DRIVING. Its simple really. People like this that kill innocent children and people. Whoever it is deserves and good kicking for doing it.

Spaced- In response to your comment, I am not driving without a licence, this is a theoretical question that I wanted an answer to for a friend of mine, so your comment is irrelevant!

sarah, whilst we never thought you'd be driving without, we all have ideas of what we'd like to see as the punishment.

i'm with spaced. irrelevent or not. too many of the little ***kers are doing it and know that the law will give them a lollypop and send them on their way. give them a proper sentence to deter them! thats what i say.
