Dogs can see color to a certain extent and they are nearsighted, compared to our eyes, but they see in low light better than us, and they see movement better and they have a better peripheral vision than we do, yellow, greys and types of greenish/blu hues. But they don't really use them that much, not like birds do,

To set the record straight for anyone looking at this later...
Rods are adapted to work best in low light and are used for Motion Detection, (not b&w). Cones detect color and work best in mid to high levels of light.
They did not "disect" the eye of a dog to find out what colors the dog could see, they actually did a training test. (they may have disected to see rods and cones??? the article does not address this). Read the article.
