Going Rate For Private Dentists ?

Been going to the same dental practice for some 20 odd yrs, not local but they are good. When they went private, paid monthly to Denplan. Not been for 4yrs (!) but crown fell out and returned to have it refitted. Nothing was mentioned at the visit about paying (never has been) but now a bill has arrived in the post, for £50 - £30 to refix crown + £20 consultation. All dentist did was fix back with some cement, no "consultation" as such, took no more than 10mins - does £50 seem right ? Seems extortionate to me, payments to Denplan appear to have stopped some time ago (don't know why, the direct debit was never cancelled by the payer) would've gone to a local one if known there'd be such a bill ...

Sounds a charge one would expect - reckon up how much Denplan would have cost you in the time since the payments stopped,you have likely made a saving.

Denplan is a contract,if you stop having checkups I think they end the contract.

I had a main front crown cemented back in after it fell out and it cost me blummin £80, and that was about 10ish years ago, at the private dentist where I had them fitted.

Strikes me as good value, I pay ~£60 for a check up.

Seems about right when consideration is taken of the costs of running the practice - the dentist + hygeinist + receptionist and all the overheads (equipment, rent etc) plus any 'writing up'/computer time and allowing for short gaps between patients. and any materials. It's similar to people like solicitors (and even some electricians/plumbers, although they sometimes make the job last far longer than it needs

Ah, ok thanks. Think my mate's peeved nothing was said at the visit though maybe the dentist didn't realise at the time the Denplan payments had stopped. They're looking to change to another dentist, one more local, possibly even NHS, so they're not happy they went so far journey wise to have it then cost so much.
