Something Of A Quandary ...
5 Answers
I was in France last week - wonderful break full of wine and good food and culture.
Whilst there I visited Conques - a beautiful mediaeval village in the Lot valley - and had a look round the Abbey and its exhibition of 'treasures'.
The Tresor was just awe-inspiring - work from over 1,000 years ago that was beyond belief in terms of its skill and artistic (as well as monetary) value. I was genuinely moved to tears by some of the pieces.
But none of it would have been created (or survived) without the Roman Catholic Church - an organisation almost without parallel in terms of the damage it has done to the world over the last two millennia.
So should I have even visited the Tresor? I'd be a poorer person for not having seen it - but ultimately I've been supporting an organisation I would rather see expunged from history.
Tricky :(
