it has just occurred to me that a panel on the back of food packets that has that silver scratch-off stuff found on saveaways and phonecards etc, that you can mark off when you open the jar/packet etc so that you know when its 'once opened use within 6 weeks' label is up.
i know you can use a pen or guess or mark a calendar - but how many of us actually do that?
anyone think its a good idea?

numbers 1-31 and the 12 months. perhaps a few years for long lasting stuff.
it could even have a sticky plastic sheet - like a saveaway - to protect it from being rubbed off accidentally
perhaps i should suggest it to the food safety agency
