Drivng License Query
15 Answers
My son is applying for a provisional driving license .
On the website it says (for I.D purposes)
//You can use the 9-digit passport number for your driving licence application if you’ve got a valid UK biometric passport //
Does it still count as 'valid' if the passport out of date?
It was a passport my son had as a child, hes now 19, passport expired 3 yrs ago.
Thanks

To be fair it's quite clear on the website what you can use if you don't have a biometric passport and answers your question:
Other types of identification
You can send the following identity documents if you don’t have a biometric passport:
a current and valid passport
a biometric residence permit (BRP) - formerly known as the identity card for foreign nationals
a UK certificate of naturalisation
an European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) national identity card
a travel document
You must send the original document with your driving licence application.

PP, scroll down that page a bit more and you will that for British born applicants, including pink ones:
UK birth and adoption certificates
You can use a UK birth and adoption certificate, but you must send it with one of the following:
National Insurance card or a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showing your National Insurance number
photocopy of the front page of a benefits book or an original benefits claim letter
P45, P60 or pay slip
marriage certificate or divorce papers (decree nisi or absolute)
college or university union card, school record or PASS CitizenCard

Nailit - why doesn't he apply for a new passport?
I recently applied for a new license and it took 5 mins online using my passport and it arrived in about 4 days.
Also...if new photos are needed you can get them signed in your local shop or pub...or anyone that holds a licence to practice their trade.
