bricklaying mortar

what is the correct mix for bricklaying mortar is it 3 parts sand to 1 part cement ?

upvc window/door

i have to fit a upvc door with a window that is joined to the door at the top half,i know that you use window frame fitttings to secure the window and door to the brickwork but how do you fix the door...
