auto box probem

when my ford explorer is under heavey load the auto box makes a sound like it is driving over a cattle grid and the vibration comes from the transmison tunnel any ideas ??

a friend of mine has just had car accident in a motorbility car the car was writen off but he was over the drink drive limit ,is he covered for the damage ?
