laptop internet access

I am going to be working away from home and plan to buy a laptop.I will be sharing accommodation and don't want to tie up the phone line (no broadband available).How else can I access the internet...

I have recently brought a new laptop and was wondering the best way to get mobile/wirless internet. It has an internal 56k modem that works fine through my land connection that i use my home PC on....
