Wood Carving begginer

I would like to carve a bangle/hoop for my girlfriend but have no idea what sort of wood I should use, or how I ahould actually go about it - can anyone help advise me so I can start. Thanks

Can someone tell me the currency in Kenya. Also im going on 1 wk all inclusive holiday, dont intend to spend too much, how much should i change? What is 'the thing to buy over there'?
