battery power

i changed my gearbox on my escort rs2000, it starts up and drives perfectly, but now the battery light comes on, can anyone tell me how to find the fault? thanks

vauxhall astra problem

on the center consol obove the radio there is a display it does time date and outside temp, now for some reason when i turn the radio off and remove the ignition key ,the time and temp lcd stays on...
