dvdr - failure to initialise

my philips dvdr3480, keeps giving me the error message 'failing to initialise' when I insert a blank dvd-rw+. I have used many of these before with no problems and it will play those previously...

I have a soda stream gemini and have been looking for ages for the replacement gas cylinders. I used to find them in Boots, Wilkinson's, Tesco etc, but they are no longer stocked. Looking on the soda...
