Any maths buffs out there?

I can't remember how to add fractions together. I was trying to figure out if my husband ate half the pie and I ate a third of the pie, how big would the remaining piece be, ie. one eighth, one tenth...

How does a plug work?

Can anyone explain in simple terms how an electrical plug works? e.g power comes in to the plug through the live wire but what does the neutral wire do? what does the earth do? how does the fuse work?...

Laptop sound recording

Can anyone tell me of a simple free or cheap program that will allow me to record the lectures I attend on my laptop. (I have a good quality plug in mic.) Thanks

chinese place names

If chinese words are written in chinese characters, why are western spellings of them so difficult to deciper, e.g. Deng Xioping - why not spell his surname Shaoping?
