Why do people say Burmanham?

It really gets my shackles up when people say Burmanem instead of BIrmingham - Whyyyyyyyyyyy do they do this ie Ian wright on Premier All stars ? its Birmingham not too dificult to pronounce is it?

My central heating and hot water are all gas powered, between the hours of 7 and 9pm i have neither heating or hot water, i live in a council property and they have been out twice and are baffled...
