freeview or hd ready tv?

what is the difference between getting a hd ready tv and just buying a freeview box. is it the same thing apart from just a better picture?

my father married his partner in barbados a few years ago and i was wondering if she would get half the share of his wealth if they got divorced. he lives in south africa, if this makes a difference?
