Avatars - day 547...

What's the latest news about avatars? I'm still stuck with a sabre-toothed squirrel in both my profile and postings (I have completely cleared the cache and cookies etc. several times).

Are they working ok for anyone, i.e. if you were to change the picture in gravatar.com then that new one would be displayed in AB within a few minutes?

None as far as I am aware.

I think AB has problems and its Techies do not know how to resolve them.

I managed to change mine a couple of weeks ago, but I think it was luck that got the new one through. They Say the problem is with Gravatar, not with AB, but I don't know for certain.

I changed mine to a poppy one and it came through about 10 days too late. I then changed it back and it took 24 hours. I haven't dared fiddle with it since. There must still be a problem as there are still some poppies about.

By creating a new email address was the only way I could get a new one.

Mine is still appearing incorrectly in threads and profile even after clearing cache, removing cookies and trying a new email address/Gravatar account. Another site I'm on that uses Gravatar has updated correctly.

I do believe that it is a Gravatar problem, maybe the sponsorship deal has run out and AB forgot to pay the bill.

I hear all sorts of rumours concerning AB; most of which are completely untrue. However, the latest is that the Ed is strapped for cash and that paying Techies to sort out problems is in itself a problem. Furthermore, he is often forced to work in the dark because of an outstanding electricity bill.

Just thought I would throw a bit of light on matters.

A lot of us are getting avatars in our profile but they are not showing on the actual page, ergo Gravatar is doing it's job!

As of yet, the Ed and AB Techie members have not challenged my opinion that problems are internal within AB and need to be resolved with its Server; which incidentally is in the USA.

I was going to suggest sneaking behind AB Towers during the night and pulling the plug out.

Go on Hopkirk, have a go. You may find that it is only the Ed's connection which you put out of action and, because (according to his profile) he is 'looking in ' but not asking or answering questions, I don't think any real harm would be done to us faithful members.
