how about a like button similar to facebook so as well as a best answer the op and other users could like or give a thumbs up to other good answers.

some people would be Liking each other's posts all day long. Imagine the lovefests in News and R&S.

Editing facility would allow them to subtly amend their posts to make other people look like idiots.

How about having two 'latest post' boxes

One for chatterbank and jokes that seem to dominate the latest posts.
The other for serious questions, that will then stay in the other 'latest post' for far longer.

Ideally open not so much on the last post, but the post after you last visited that thread :-) Well one can always store the massive cookies on an external drive ;-)

Oh here's a good one, how about a switch to stop updates, so if I get on at work I don't get plagued with password requests every 2 seconds ! I had a full head of hair before I logged on at work.

Every time this has been raised in the past there seems to be a split about if people want it or not, I'd suggest putting the word "last" or similar after the question heading in the latest posts so clicking on the word last takes you to the last page in the thread and clicking on the question title takes you to the first page in the thread.

(this could of course be reversed with the word first or similar)
