or smoke and mirrors, minty.
black_cat, I think east and west normally stop at the 180 degree line. Hence the quiz question "What are the most northerly, southerly, easterly and westerly states of the USA?" Answer: Alaska, Hawaii, Alaska and Alaska.
Seriously Tilly, I thought Buenchicho had sorted out your Codec issue.

I very rarely get any problems with AB. Perhaps, it has something to do with the fact that I avoid using Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. My default Browser is Firefox and I use Bing as my Search Engine.

What I really want to know, and no one has answered me, is how to get rid of this virus which has obviously embedded itself into my laptop via Answerbank.
Tilly install and run the free version of malware bytes..remember to remove the tick in the box at the end for premium trial period..it will scan and identify any problems then ask you to quarantine them..which you do..problem solved !
@murraymints......Your advice is what I would normally give. However, Tilly has scanned to no avail with Malwarebytes. Consequently I am thinking about what next she can do, without it being too difficult a task.

Pity Buenchicho isn't posting in this thread.

Question Author
It's ok, Jordy. I just want my virus sorted.
Question Author
Well the problem seems to have been sorted but it would have been nice to have had some sort of acknowledgement from the Ed.

Thanks for sorting it, whoever did it.
I am pleased Tilly because I was about to post the following :-

//Tilly....I have given further thoughts to your problem and have come to a few conclusions on the issues concerned. If I am proceeding along the wrong lines then I feel sure that the Ed or a respected Techie will correct my beliefs.

1.) You have been subjected to a Virus which appears to have arrived via AB.

2.) The virus can be linked to a fake 'up-date' for Java.

3.) It is possible that you already had Java installed in your Laptop but Did Not really require it. Anyway, a complete 'clean-out' is now required.

I suggest you proceed as follows :-

a.) Check to see if Java is in your programmes and, if so, uninstall it. :-

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xml

b.) Give scan with your AVG: Followed by Malwarebytes.

Then if it is necessary for you to have Java to play on-line games or for using certain Internet sites, then download and reinstall from the official site which is :-

http://www.java.com/en/

Incidentally....I get along without Java because nowadays there are very few sites that require it.//

Hans.

Question Author
Thanks for that detailed answer, Hans but I don't think my virus is Java. It's JS/FakeCodec. Is that Java? I have no idea.
