Is It True That Mods Can Remove Their Own Posts?

I see a couple of ABers have referred to a mod removing his/her own posts. Is this allowed? And how would we know who had removed a post although I suppose it is highly unlikely one mod would remove the post of another mod. Just interested as if it's true it seems unfair to me. Any thoughts?

mods can remove posts, so that must include their own posts. Presumably they have to give reasons, just as everyone else has to do when reporting a post, and the Ed looks it over and decides if it's justified. I'm pretty sure he's said that he'll reinstate a post if he thinks removal was unnecessary.

But if a mod has said he or she removed a post of their own, it's hardly unfair to anyone.

We need moderators to stop the place descending to youtube levels of abuse and stupidity.

If you think your posts are being unfairly removed by them, report it to the Ed.

If you think the Ed's done something wrong, tough. He's a law unto himself. All you can do is stop visiting the site. Plenty have.

jno has a point - a post just doesn't vanish - it has to be accompanied by a report ( a reason for its removal ) if the Editorial team disagree with that it will be reinstated.

I'm talking about some of the comments under the youtube videos Mamya. We wouldn't people abusing each other in the same way on here, but a link to a vid is fair enough.

Personally, I don't believe the Ed can possibly read the 'reports'. Otherwise the occasional inexplicable removal would reappear.
As the goody-goodies say, if we don't like it we'll have to flounce.

One particular thread in which I was involved, I recall a mod's post was removed very quickly but no explanation followed. And then today the subject raised its head again. You confirm it is true, thank you for that Mamya.

What an enormous advantage over other ABers to be able to remove your own post that you regret posting or for any other reason at all for that matter.

Andy if a mod were to quietly remove their own post/s and not mention it, would the Ed even know. As you say he can't be watching all the time.

Ludwig I agree we need mods, I'm not moaning about a post of mine being removed, fairly or otherwise, I was just asking a question.

As advised previously on this thread - all reports and removals are flagged to the Ed for approval, and recinding if he thinks it is appropriate.

There can't be that many - it must be a simple matter to cast an eye over overnight reports first thing in the morning, and then deal with any that ping up during the day.

I doubt that, considering the huge amount of posts on the site as a whole, that in proportion, the reports are that many - if there were, I think the Ed would post an APB for everyone to behave!

ladybirder, it's like I said - I think the Ed's said he reads all posts removed by mods, and will reinstate them if necessary. I can't find the thread where he said so, though.

Other ABers occasionally regret posting something for one reason or another and issue pleas to for any passing mod to remove it. I don't know how often this works

Moderators should have a symbol next to their username. This would serve two-fold: Firstly it means a contributor could avoid rubbing said Mod up the wrong way, and secondly the presence of a mod on a Thread that is becoming out of hand may just calm things down. Moderators are only human (I think) and will have their likes and dislikes. I'm not sure if some posts are actually removed because they infringe any more on the T&C than others that are posted by the Moderators 'friends' and left on.
