Thanks Ed. Closed down and reopened - now working again. I'll ask my son to try smowball's fix when he gets home, because I have no idea what she's talking about!
OK, found something else.

frozen again after your fix ed, back on lap to
One of the side effects of having new advert sizes is that there's more people trying to advertise on us - and a few of them are having trouble.

I know that you have to have advertisers but you will lose a lot of users if this is not fixed soon. Surely the site is as much, if not more, for us rather than them. Shouldn't their ads be vetted for compatibility with the site
The site is for you, yes, but we need to keep the lights on. The site was working fairly well until the last couple of days it seems. So we're trying to fix it right now.

But sadly Margo, we can't pre-vet adverts. We have blocklists to put naughty advertisers on, but as there are thousands of ads, we'd never be able to check them all. Also, to put it in further perspective, we get paid per 1000 impressions of an advert - say, 50p. That means, you have to see 1000 ads to pay us 50p.
And I do understand the frustrations...
//One of the side effects of having new advert sizes is that there's more people trying to advertise on us //

Surely this scenario should have been anticipated and therefore tested, not left so that it causes pain to the regular users? Please don't tell me it was tested........cos if it was you probably shouldn't be using those testers!
We tested it, yep. We had a few hundred Answerbankers using it too, I can't think of a better bunch.

Even Gromit, who earlier in this thread, commented on the improvements on iPad.

The issue is that this isn't because we've changed the format, it's because an advert is being annoying. At the time of testing, it wasn't being annoying, or didn't exist - so it is impossible to test for.

Anyway, we're trying to fix it :)

i give up for today its gving me a flaming headache. i will try again in the morning. Lets hope it can be sorted soon
Sorry but this is a complete nightmare. Either the site won't open at all, or it does and yet the screen is frozen and I can open anything, or else I've just got half a page. Really have had enough : (
It seems only to affect iPads (whatever they are). I haven't had a single issue on my laptop.
//Anyway, we're trying to fix it :) //

So you say, but clearly not hard enough. It's a complete shambles. And yes I have got experience of implementing new systems from a previous job where we did things properly (and to a strict budget).
I solved this on my ipad by clearing the website date in settings / safari and then switching off and back on.
I've done that before Zacs
Me too, it may have solved earlier issues, but it doesn't solve this problem.
Yes freezes on my tablet, cannot use AB on that, but seems ok on my mobile phone, very strange
Got any ideas then Angie?

Based on the feedback it seems like an advertiser who would be targeting ipads, whose system has fallen over. Finding it is the issue.
Additional change made. Give it 15 minutes and see if that makes a difference.
Ed-you couldn't afford my daily rate....LOL
Seriously, if you embarked on such a dramatic change, you must have planned it and had a team of experienced technicians, testers, etc.? If not, words fail me. You simply don't go live with such an upgrade without ironing out all the obvious faults beforehand during testing. Yes I know you'll get further small issues when some "genius" comes up with a scenario no one has thought of but these issues are much more fundamental. Sorry, but a poor show all round.
