May I ask if we will be regularly informed about donations. Not information of who has donated, but details of how much has being donated. And also what donations have achieved to help AB.
Thank you.
Thank you.

MissT, yes that was my first thought when I first came into the thread and saw the BA. Programmers are very expensive (I know I am one at the moment) but many are happy to do a bit extra for their pet projects and lets face it AB is never going to be in the Facebook league is it so a bit on non gratis even though its a 'business' wouldnt be a problem. I cant do it now as I have...

We want to make improvements to The AnswerBank. This requires developers, their time is expensive.
We are asking for donations to help fund site developments.
This does involve the community, we recently did a poll to see what website changes members wanted. We got a lot of feedback.
It is all very early days, whilst we decide how to handle communication about the donations, I would like to thank those who have donated.

Is that allowed in Site Rules ;0)
Right. I've deliberated - again.
('Oh no!' I hear you cry!!) ;o)
I was rather hoping that the new owner would be a much needed breath of fresh air to blow away the cobwebs here, but it seems not. Going by the responses to the request for donations, the same significant and on-going disenchantment with the same abysmal standard of moderation that has seen so many good but despairing posters desert the place, remains. Bearing in mind that the ever-diminishing footfall is recognised by the new management, it seems rather odd that those concerns haven’t been acknowledged and aren't being addressed, the intention being, it appears, to continue in the same flawed and failing vein - which, from a business point of view, makes no sense at all to me.
However …….. despite my concerns - and just between us - over my hundred years or so (it feels like that sometimes!) of wandering these hallowed halls, I have found AB entertaining and helpful in more ways than one - and I would be sorry to see its demise. Therefore, I figure that since I would pay anywhere else for entertainment - or for specialist advice - or for therapy - or for comedy shows - the first of my monthly donations will shortly be forthcoming.
I wish AB all the very best for the future.

Just a suggestion. There seem to be some very knowledgeable folk on here regarding all things technical regarding computers, creating web sites, software, etc etc. Many of them retired. How about a team of volunteers to get together and save this site instead of employing greedy companies. I am totally useless when it comes to such things but according to my son there are a lot of companies taken by so called experts.

I cant do it now as I have gone back to work but if I'd known there was a problem I could have done something. I have been in IT for many years from Programming to PM and all the bits in-between and also have experience of web sites (I run my own web server).
Still, I expect I'd be as welcome as being asked to be a Mod :-)
