You are correct. The chatter bank has over run this site.
All too often questions are ridiculed and inane chat ensues.
Here you witness another member of answerbank signing out for the last time. Good luck with cleaning this mess up.
What do you mean by the Chatterbank has over run this site? There are many other forums readily available for one to partake in. Chatterbank is a forum for chatting about anything and everything. One is not forced or compelled to post in the Chatterbank or even read the materials in there. It's a personal choice to visit that particular forum.
I don't mind lines 1, 2 and 4 (each to his/her own opinion) but I find line 3 to be really quite childish (like chucking your dummy out of the pram). Do you expect everything to be tightened up and changed to 'how it should' be and then you might consider staying? Oh, go on, please stay!
I think the Knight feels that serious issues such as whether objects can be moved with the mind or whether Mars once had an atmosphere cannot be discussed in the way they would like without CBers jumping in and making a mockery of the severity of the situation.
If other people wrote "Here you witness another member of answerbank signing out for the last time" I am pretty sure it would be classed as a flounce (no offence).
I don't think 12thPaladin is criticising Chatterbank as such, but he is saying that the more serious categories on here are being spoilt by people making inane comments. I think he has a valid point - and I think we've lost a lot of valuable people over the past year or so for that - and for other reasons. However, I hope he takes AP's advice because personally I feel that this site is a mere shadow of what it was a few years ago and he does make worthwhile contributions. I really don't think we can afford to lose many more serious contributors. If we do, those who run AB might just as well concede defeat and call the site Chatterbank.
It means that any serious discussion is disrupted, and hence demolished, by people who have no intention of discussing the subject matter seriously, Society, and that's a great pity.
Well I must hold up my hands and apologise, I had quite forgotton that I was not on Chatterbank, and for that I must concede that I was wrong to respond to the thread in the way I did, my apologies to you 12th. But I have no intentions of flouncing off. Yet.
chatterbank is a soap opera..........................we have the leading characters and the extras and the technical staff. ed wants to tighten up the site, imo its getting a bit boring, answerbank cant have its cake and eat it........ ...........chatterbank is the most used site, but now im looking over my shoulder for a moderator "who are also abers) " before i even answer a question.
And the inconsistency is confusing. We've had an absolutely disgusting thread that should have been zapped from the start running all day in Chatterbank, but I had a one line post removed from a thread in R&S for saying someone was a twerp - and he is. (Did I mention that sometime before? Yep, I sure did!). Can't help thinking there's a method in the madness.
Hi anne - usually I don't notice/respond to these types of posts but this is just an internet site. Some people's lives are really pants and they would love it if the only thing they had to moan about was inane chatter. I just think that a sense of proportion is needed.
