Help! Spider take over!

Hi all!
This is my first post with AB and was hoping for some much needed advice! I have recently moved into an annex which is staff accommodation in my new job. It is nice enough ( after some intense cleaning ) but spiders seem to rule the roost! I have hoovered, dusted and polished the place into an inch of its life getting into all small corners, nooks and crannies or any other spider hidey holes. I will finish and there will be no spiders in site only to find as soon as two days later they are slowly appearing again. I am not scared of spiders thankfully this is more a nuisance than anything but is extremely annoying and frustrating! any helpful tips?

Had the property been empty for a while before you moved in?

I've heard that a bowlful of conkers will keep the little blighters at bay. Not too sure of the effectiveness though.

why not try one of those steam cleaners, i have heard they are very good.

spider activity should reduce now you have moved in, you have to remain vigilant and keep throwing them out, over time they will recede to a dull roar like most houses.

Wait until Conker season and put a few conkers in each room... Apparently they don't like conkers. The conkers have to be changed for fresh picked ones on a regular basis as it's the smell that deters the spiders. If you're not scared I would just ignore them. I've been sharing my bedroom with a whopper. Welcome to AB

Yes I think it was empty for about 6months before I moved in - which is why
I wasn't all that surprised at first. However iv been here nearly 3 and a half months now...surely the buggas should have taken the hint by now? This may sound stupid but apart from a horse chestnut ( correct me if im wrong ) tree but where else could I get conkers from?
I have used a steam cleaner in the past and they're wicked but cleanliness isn't the problem - I have cleaned the place from top to bottom. The only result being the spiders now have a much nicer place to live aswell haha!

My house is full of them due to it being very old and having beams and things and also because I live in the middle of the country. From having a spider phobia in my younger days I have become resigned to living with them - I even give them names. They help keep flies away. Is it essential that you get rid of them?

No not essential - just an annoyance really. Thanks for all the comments guys, Think I shall try and find some conkers see if that helps :)

The construction of the property may also provide routeways for spiders (and mice). Cavity walls and interior stud walls are all havens for critters once they've found a way in.
When you've hoovered have a good look for any gaps, holes or cavities - fill thse in, as it's staff accomm I'd suggest wetting loads of tissues and cramming them into likely spideyholes.

At the moment with have some really huge spiders. There has been one in the bath for the past few days. (We don't use the bath!) I can't pick them up and I keep forgetting to ask Mr LL to get rid of it. He doesn't use the bathroom.

Ha, ha Snags, I meant to say the upstairs bathroom. Our shower room is downstairs. He never needs the loo at night!!
