For years I have, and all my friends, relatives colleagues (possibly enemies too) have been pronouncing this as 'Eye-Kia'.

Now

from the recent spate of advers it appeaars that the Swedish sounding gentelman says it should be 'Ick-ear'.

Whose right!

(same as Nestles - rhymes with trestles - is now 'Nest-lay' and 'Marathon' is now 'Snickers'!!!)

PP, my Greek friends say SPITI is house. SPITAKI is small house/home
I remember an advertising campaign for Knorr soups and sauces many years ago encouraging us to pronounce the K.
"Knorr - Remember our K-name".
A lost cause here though (like the final syllable of Porsche)
As a follow-on from my response re Braun/Brown, the same applies to Kärcher. The 'a' in the name has an umlaut above it, which means it should be pronounced (roughly) as 'ay'. Also, the 'ch' should be pronounced as in Johann Sebastian BaCH or LoCH Lomond, not as the 'ch' at either end of 'church'.
Yet, the company now advertises its products here as 'archer' with a 'k' in front of it. Braun and Kärcher, at least, have had the sense to accept that, if you can't beat 'em, you might just as well join 'em!
Old habits die hard. I still say Nike, Keenya and Bo - diss - ear, Cannot get used to Nykay,Ken-yah and boodycar...

Thanks for the replies - even cully for my grammatical error (but I did apologise for typos straight away.

I know Nestles is an old one but it does seem like every so often companies change their pronunciation for no apparent reason (Hi-un-dye cars are now Hundies?)

A colleage referred to MFI as 'Made for Effin Idiots' or as suppository furniture - cos you put it up yourself - so Eye-Key-er can do the same.

P.S. Hate there shops too. Find what you want and then spend 3 hours in the warehose looking for it
Oil of Ulay - Oil of Olay
...and of course 'moeben' kitchens (umlaut over the o) sounds German deliberately to flog its chipboard units under the guise of high-class continental design instead of being a Manchester firm.
Sorry, puternut, missed your correction. Had business with the Nestles people at work and my determinaion to stay with the way we always said it caused ructions. "It's NESSLAY" they shouted and I shouted back "IT'S NESSLES!!
I noticed that Ikea ad earlier today - I'm glad it's not just me...

Since Lidl's been mentioned - there seem to be several pronounciations of ALDI -
I call Alldee, but some call it AL-dee (as in Al Murray, or Al Hambra)....
"oikos is NT greek for a house"
"PP, my Greek friends say SPITI is house. SPITAKI is small house/home"

Yes, as in the (modern) Greek equivalent of "home sweet home": "σπίτι μου, σπιτάκι μου".

But they wouldn't have said that when the New Testament was written, as they'd have spoken Ancient Greek rather than Δημοτική.
yep^ looks right to me.
How did we get from a rubbish scandinavian warehouse to New Testament Greek, just like conversations in a pub when the beer is flowing.
When I was a kid Nescafé coffee was pronounced, "Nescaff".
Funny how we don't say Paree, but we do say Grond Pree instead of Grand Pricks
Let's resurrect that Icelandic volcano now that its little brother Cowabunga is about to blow its top!
Eyjafjallajokull:
I learnt how to pronounce it fairly quickly :-)
I remember when I heard how "Lowenbrau" should be properly pronounced and have always been in a quandary about pronouncing it the proper way in pubs or the dumbed down way: LEU-VEN-BROY (the "R" is enunciated from the back of the throat).
The same goes for "Zyweic", I pronounced it properly in a pub once (after being taught by a Pole) and was corrected with something incorrect!
ZHE-VEE-ETS.
Ah, I love languages and dialects :-)
I've always called Bon Marche Bon Marsh but now it seems to be Bon Marshay! Lets call the whole thing off!
Po-tah-toes!
