Resistance build up is in Spain and uk that I know of! Doesn't work on our cats for long! About a week maybe or two! Don't like administering such strong chemicals on the cats if it isn't working either! Would love a natural remedy but don't know what!!
I have useD Advocate on Callie since I got her last September, it seems to work fine, not had a problem!............

He is a certified pest controller and he did move beds, furniture etc and sprayed everywhere, I have a leaflet that he gave me and told me not to hoover for 10 days, and yes been emptying hoover outside straight in bin bag and into bin. He usually charges £42 but because I had previously bought treatment from the vets he only charged £30 and second time he didn't charge me anything, he also gave me a light/sticky pad for a couple of days and was to place in kitchen where dog sleeps over night, over the 2 days it only had 6 fleas on sticky pad
None of carpets have carpets below.
Would you suggest anything else I can do
You would if you had my experience with it RATTER, and my neighbour here, plus many other people who have posted on this site about it not working. If you google FL not working you will see there are many many people complaining about it. My vet refuses to prescribe it he has had so many complaints.
Having said that, it still works for some animals but not all, so why waste money by taking the risk? It worked for mine for many years and I thought it was brilliant but it doesn't work now and I had a nightmare to get rid of the fleas plus a poor demented cat and dog. RIP from the vet sorted my home out after about 2 weeks of spraying BUT I live in a small flat. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. ADVOCATE or STRONGHOLD, both very good.

Think I'm the poor demented one at the moment as fleas don't seem to be biting dog as I haven't had any flea dirt on him for over a week now, but he still has fleas
Alid, the fleas will be coming off carpets, furniture etc onto your dog but will then be killed by the flea treatment (if it's working). It's a nightmare and I know just how you feel, I was the same. My neighbour and I kept putting more and more FL on our animals not realising it wasn't working and then I got curious and googled it and of course saw we were not alone. I know some people on here are still OK with it but it caused me such a headache I'm still mad about it now and it was two years ago! I try to warn people but if they won't listen what can you do. I do hope you get it sorted soon for all your sakes.

Thanks ladybirder, don't know how much more I can take. You go to vets to get the best advice and it ends up costing me a small fortune and they can't guarantee the stuff works, I think I need to change my vet.
alid5 I'm a little concerned at the price, I was certainly amongst the cheaper of the pest controllers and I was charging £65 for anything up to a 3 bed house and £75 for a four bed house and that was 10 years ago. I could not have treated a house effectively for any less and if I had to carry out a free re-treatment I was virtually out of pocket.

I would suggest that the price he has charged is suspiciously low.

I may be wrong.
Ladybirder, im not saying you are wrong but I am saying it is working in some areas not in all areas.

I do hope your wrong, he has used New Acclaim Aerosol and Ficam W, hope this makes sense to you.
Can you suggest anything else I should be doing
did he lift the edges of the fitted carpets and spray into the bases of the skirting boards?
I find it very strange that a professional Pest Controller is using a domestic spray can flea killer, surely he wasn't spraying the house with it, a £16 can probably isnt enough to treat one room. I certainly wouldn't of used the Bendiocarb based Ficam W, (great for ants though) I would have sooner gone for a Permethrin based chemical. I cant help but find this all a little suspicious, is he a member of the "BPCA" British Pest Control Association? I would suggest that you give it a few more days and then call in another Pest Controller who is a member of the above association.
dotty. In all fairness that would not be practical in most homes and would certainly put all the prices up by 300% due to the time involved and was never included in any training or advised with any of the products. However I would have soaked all the edges in the products I used, the edges of the carpet are the areas to pay particular attention when treating a house.

Will find out, but I phoned up the local council and they put me in touch with him, there is a whole list of pest control products numbered 1 to 15 but thatl be for all pests I take it, no sign of what you suggested though does it have a different name.
I haven't read all the answers so I apologise if anyone else has suggested this, but when my dog got fleas from visiting with my ex and his flea-ridden cats (that's another story), the only thing that gave the dog any relief, and seemed to finally get rid of them was rubbing the infected areas with baby oil (it was the Johnsons one with aloe vera, whether that made any difference i don't know). He'd got quite sore skin from scratching so much too, but it really did seem to help hi, and obviously ta new flea collar at the same time. good luck wiht it -they drive themselves into a frenzy with it poor things x
Question Author
He hasn't got any sore as he not scratching that much now, still found another 3 live fleas in his bed this morning, nothing seems to be working, someone suggested getting him shaved but thats a bit drastic. Don't know what else I can do
I presume you have washed his bedding?

How about using a flea bomb.

And bathing your dog in a good flea shampoo that also protects against ticks and mange, and then using a daily natural supplement - see links.

I use the Frontline spray rather than any of the spot on treatments. Never had a problem. Could it be that you have rabbits or hedgehogs and the dog is laying where they have been and bringing them in?
Me mam swore by a flea lamp, we use a flea spray on the carpets as there were fleas in the carpets before we got our dog. Ratter, they love garlic so will be giving them some in there food, as they wolf garlic bread down.
firewatch, Flea lamps are only a monitoring device, not any good for eradicating a flea problem.
