cat back legs
40 Answers
my cats back legs have suddenly gone paralysed over a few days he has gone from walking slowly to not being able to jump on sofa to dragging his legs behind him. the vet said xrays but said nothing felt broken and she manipulated him and he wasnt in pain so doubts anything is broken. she says at 3 hes too young for arthritis. the xrays will cost 'a couplw of hundred' pounds and the next step is ct scan which she says is v expensive. i think the xray wont show anything and dont have the spare money. i work so dont qualify for help. i feel si stressed and worried for my little cat.

Could you try the PDSA or one of your local cats protection/animal welfare societies. Surely they would try to help in situations like this when treatment is too expensive? I'd certainly hope so because that's why lots of people give to animal charities. Fingers crossed for you.
you need to take him back to the vets asap. he is clearly unwell and needs treatment now. if you don't at least attempt to get him sorted it could be construed as cruelty/neglect. ring your vets now (it cannot be left over the weekend - or even go to the pdsa and say you have no money but really need to get your cat sorted out). be upfront with the vet and say you have no money at the moment but will endeavour to work out a payment plan to sort your puddy tat out. it may be that he has had an accident/fallen etc but this needs to be assessed properly (i can't believe a vet would be happy to send a cat home half paralysed!!!). he needs blood tests, potentially xrays and should be at your vets being monitored in this state - not at home!!! ring your vets now!!!
also....i forgot to add that paralysis of the back legs can be a sign of a stroke. my parents cat experienced this at the age of 6 and had to be put down. i'm not saying you have to do that, but the vet should be looking after your pet and getting to the bottom of what's wrong. your cats quality of life should be your utmost priority. good luck and do let us know how you get on and need more support x
Have a look at this link and see if you qualify the PDSA help.

So sorry to hear about your cat.any news on how he is? Mine was the same and unfortunatly turned out to be a tumour on her spine causing the paralysis. havent found a vet yet who's not been willing to take installments. And is it just me, or does anyone else think the link for pet burials and cremation, under your post is just a little bit insensitive. all the best, hope he's ok. X
it may sound harsh, but you have to forget about the money if your cat is still unwell. if her back legs are not working, you have to take her to a vet. it may be that you just go to the pdsa and show them the state of your cat and beg/plead/cry and get her treated. you have to do what is in the cats best interest, not yours. that is the responsibility of being a pet owner, i'm afraid. i would be in the same boat as you if one of my 3 cats became seriously unwell, but i would not leave any of them in pain, distressed or clearly unwell. i still think you should be taking her to the vet.
I agree with lcg76. you need to get him seen to, is there an animal rescue anywhere near you, could you offer to volunteer, do some work etc for them, if they can help you. other than that, sorry to say it, but if your puss is in pain and you cant afford to do anything then you are going to have to have him put down. sorry but you cant let him suffer.
