Let Our Boy Go Tonight
Our big old boy, 15yrs, not been well for some time. Swollen face tonight so we took him to the vet. Mouth ulcerated and now weighs 2.5kg (was 6.2). 'Easy' decision - but he was such a lovely boy.
Went so peacefully in my arms, so why can't I stop crying.

As you can see jakep, the AB is chock full of pet lovers who understand and send out their love and sympathy. Whenever you start to love someone, or something, there is pain at the end of it. 6.2kg - he was a cuddly chap - my Frankie weighs in at 5kg. We tried weighing his sister but she went berserk and tried to bit the nice vet lady.
My first love and my first dog died in 1988 - I still miss him. I was talking to my pal about him yesterday.
The raw pain that you feel now will decrease in intensity - but there will always be a corner or your heart where you store the memories that you have of your time together.
I hope that his sister is waiting for him (its a nice thought), if my Frankie bumped into Princess Merlin at Rainbow Bridge she would probably beat the cr*p out of him like she does whilst on planet Earth.

Loving your pet properly is about knowing when it is time to let them go, when every inch of you aches to keep them with you for a little bit longer to postpone that agony that you know is coming.
But loving is about doing what is right for him, and that is what you did. So when you cry, remember he doesn't, and when you hurt, remember he doesn't and when you smile, remember that somewhere, he does, and that you loved him as much as he loved you, and he thanks you for ending his suffering.
Time does heal - no-one knows how much though, but living without him becomes bearable eventually, and you can remember him with fondness, not so much pain.
That day will come, and until then the AB'ers are here to support you any time.
