Dogs And Hot Weather
Please can I appeal to dog owners to keep their dogs at home in this heat, they are much better off in the shade with a bowl of water than going to the shops or for walks in the heat of the day, my neighbour brought his greyhound/whippet home yesterday and she had a fit and died on the doorstep, the vet gave him a right telling off, and so did I, he is very upset and knows it was his fault, early morning or just as the suns goes down if you can, and not to far please.

I've taken to shutting the dog inside wheni im sitting out in the sun, as try as i might, she refuses to sit anywhere in the shade and plants herself next to me. Within minutes she's been panting, so as ive said, ive taken to shoving a very peed off dog inside.
Rather her sulking, than boiling her brains out!

No matter what the weather always had his main walk before 06.00. It's the best part of the day nobody about but you and your dog and the if it does get really hot he only needed little walks to do his business. When he was at home he had several shady spots in the garden depending where the sun was and strategically water bowls all over the place though his favourite source of water was the fish pond.
My poor hound is really struggling at the moment, he's got a massive furry coat and the poor thing (read poor me) is moulting. He goes on his walk about 8 oclock in the morning. Then he comes in and stays in the bathroom for most of the day.
Please don't be too hard on your neighbour, he's just lost his best friend :(

No Sandy, it's not that kind of fur unfortunately, that and the fact he'd probably take someones hand off if they came near him with clippers ;)
Here's a pic of him in the bathroom, you can see where little clumps of fur are coming out round his neck.
