Excessive Drooling

I noticed this morning when Reeva got up she had a lot of saliva running from her mouth- unusual for her , never seen her do this before. I didn't think too much about it and just cleaned it off. She has been asleep for an hour or so while I have been busy, in her favourite position , on her back all legs in the air ( very ladylike my girl) and when she stood the side of her face and head are soaking wet . Any idea what could be causing this before I start ringing to get vets appointment ?

Just get ringing, girl. We'd be guessing so the sooner the better and I hope she's ok

I agree, bad tooth something stuck in the mouth, sting in the mouth leap to mind, none serious all need prompt vet attention so if you haven't already get ringing

I rang the vets as soon as I posted because its getting worse. Got an appt in an hour . Thanks for replying .

How was she ?

Vet reckons it has to do with her ear infection that's she has had since Monday.
She has had an antibiotic injection and we have to just keep a close eye on her tomorrow and if it doesn't improve or gets any worse we have to contact the out of hours vet.

Let's hope the antibiotics work quickly, jasmin. Poor thing, she must be in pain. Have you been given more antibiotics for her to take?

Hi Tilly no she hasn't been given anymore. I am starting to go over the whole conversation with the vet in my head and now I am worrying that she really wasn't sure what is going on so the ear infection was only likely cause. She did say if Reeva had been poisoned or ate something she shouldn't have , she would be vomiting- which she isn't. She mentioned neurological disorders but said she really didn't want to start looking into those at this stage

Does she seem any better at the moment, jasmin? Has the drooling lessened?

No it hasn't stopped at all, it seems worse when she is lying down too .

Is her behaviour normal? Is she eating, drinking, playing?

She has had her tea no problem but she is just lying around

Ring the vet again if you are still worried. One of my cats drools great sheets of saliva when something's the matter in his mouth. You maybe need to take her back.

See how she is in the morning and if she's not her normal self and still drooling, take her back to the vets. Is she insured, jasmin?

There will be an emergency vet open tomorrow if your normal one is closed for the bank holiday.

yes Tilly she is insured thank goodness. I will stay up with her tonight and keep an eye on her , the vet is closed tomorrow but will ring the out of hours number if she is no better.

That's the sort of thing I do, stay up with them all night. Don't hesitate to ring the emergency vets if you are becoming more concerned. Good luck with all this.

I doubt whether this is anything life threatening and the ear infection does seem the obvious first port of call.

I think it may well settle.

I certainly hope it is Sqad but I am such a worrier where she is concerned.
