I haven't been on holidays from 2008 - mainly because I can't stand putting my dog into kennels.

I did try a private dog-sitter but was not pleased - that was to allow me to get to a wedding.

Anybody else feel guilty.

The last time I brought him - he braked his hind legs big time and it nearly killed me.

Why don't you take him with you? Have a look in the Pets Welcome brochure, jj.

That would be a good idea but am thinking providing the vertigo stays away (touching wood) would like to go to Portugal as it is one country I haven't been to.
I would rather put my dog in kennels than have a pet sitter. I know she's safe in the kennels. I don't like taking her though.
Do you not have any friends that could take your dog for a while or even a good neighbour that would pop round a few times a day to feed and take for short walks.

Maybe you should try just going for a long weekend first and see how you get on. You're not likely to enjoy a full week abroad if you're feeling guilty and worried.
Are you fretting about your UK holiday or are you bringing Mr Harv with you?

Tilly why do you not like a pet-sitter.

YinYang - my dog is very much a house dog - pretty much with me 24 hours a day - sleeps in the same room etc.

Would have one friend who would have looked after him but she is fighting cancer and it wouldn't be fair.

I do know if he was left alone too long - he would bark with loneliness.

If I could bring Mr Harv with me to Portugal I would.

To be honest I am pretty addicted to him and even in 2008 I couldn't wait to get home to be with him.

I can dream.
He broke his hind legs last time you took him on holiday? Anyway you have to weigh up kennels v Portugal and see which side wins.
Based on what you've said, I think you'd be better having a U.K. holiday with mr Harv. There must be loads of places in Britain you've never been to - how about the north of Scotland?
Oh, I thought you were having a week in Cornwall in September.....perhaps I misunderstood your previous post.

Question Author
No he didn't BREAK his legs - he braked/stopped them.

Even if I was to take a UK holiday don't think my friends (not really dog lovers) would like it.
Question Author
You are right in thinking about Cornwall in September but I have knocked that on the head too re Mr Harv. I keep procrastinating.

C&J that would be brilliant.

When I left him with the pet-sitter - I got a post-mortem about him - how he run away (in an enclosed area) - wouldn't come back this and the other. I thought she was trained for that.
You've lost me a bit with the whole braking / stopping his legs thing...

You didn't mention going with friends up to now. You can either find a good kennel and struggle with your guilt, take the dog and risk annoying your friends or accept that a holiday isn't really practical for you at the moment.
Question Author
C&J you probably go with somebody who would be understanding of the dogs.
Question Author
Yinyang - when he saw the kennels - he seemed to be upset and "stood on his back legs" - does that clarify it for you.
