As you know I have lost Mr Harv and today am thinking of going to an adoption shelter to have a look for a little animal in need.

Any opinions from you on - is too soon to look or give myself a bit of break to grieve Mr Harv.

Conne.....I should give it a little longer.....a friend did that recently...too soon after losing her beloved pet...and she couldn't help comparing....

But you know yourself best of course....

Take care....Gx
I didn't know you'd lost him. Sorry to hear that.

I would leave it longer in your position.

Inside myself I know that but G what would be "your length" and thanks for that Ummmm.

I have to go to dentists midday and may take a nip over to the shelter - no harm in looking.

understand re the comparing of a dog and I would try and avoid that
Follow your heart JJ. I am sorry to hear about Mr Harv.
It's entirely a personal choice.

We lost our last dog in January 13, took us until July of this year to finally be able to get a new pup. But I know some people who just can't live without a dog in their home, so get a new dog days or weeks after losing their pet.

Sounds a bit Hallmark Card, but you will know when the time is right.
Only you can know the answer to that question.

All I can say is whatever you decide any pet you adopt/rescue will have a good loving home. This is based on your previous postings on Mr Harv.

Must admit, I'd tend to give it a few more days, but that's just me and not you.
(January 2013)

I would give it a little bit of a break Conne, but the choice is yours, just make sure it's done for the right reasons.
My cat had to be put to sleep in January and I got a another one in August. I still compare them. They are so different it's hard not to. The new cat is super cute but my old cat was only interested in me...
Then spend some time at the shelter if you can, Conne...will they let you visit now and again so you can be around other dogs for a while and see how you feel?

My friend just couldn't cope with the next dog and he had to go back which then broke her heart....but a few months on she is now owned by a delightful dog and it's as if they were made for each other....xx
Only you know how you can cope. After losing one beloved dog 20 years ago, I found a little, needy one about a week later and that worked - but I also had another dog who was bereft and lonely without her companion, so she was a bridge of sorts. Today I am looking round the animal shelters for another dog, but it is over a year since I lost little Cully and it is only now that I feel able to commit again. To know that you can give a dog a future is a help.

thanks for your answers -

Gness - why could your friend not cope with the little dog she had to send back
Conne....it was just far too soon....

She'd had her other dog for a long time and he was such a character. The house was so empty without him...but the new rescue dog just wouldn't settle and was so different.....and the memory of the first dog was still strong and raw I guess. She did try so hard....but it wasn't working.

Different story now though.....the dog she has was given to the shelter when a baby arrived...and they adore each other...x

maybe a little more time ( a few weeks ) conn.. good luck at the dentist, and well done for deciding to go. :)
Question Author
thanks for that answer Gness - am off to get ready and I will have a look and get a feel of the other little fellas - have decided to give myself time. again Thnx
Why wait?
Some dog needs a home.
Conne.....you will know when you meet the dog for you and not a replacement to fill the gap in your life Mr Harv has left....Gx
A home....and a bit more, Sqad...x
