I truly never thought I would be so heart-broken and I am. The house is so empty, when I come home from any outing - he was there - barking and going mad indeed.

Anyway went from dentist to animal shelter - since I didn't know where it was - it took a few hours - altho all the wee animals are looking for parents - only one wee article took my fancy which was a tiny Jack Russell. It was only there a few days but as much as I tried to make eye to eye contact - it wasn't there.

I have buried so many people in my day I can't believe how heartbroken I am - it actually has taken so much out of me just like my mother's death. Oh God. I am sorry for ranting here.

It's not ranting, conne you are bereaved. I'm sure you'll find a new little pal, are there anymore animal shelters in your area for you to try ?.

Give it time conne, it will get better, don't try and rush things
Pets are members of ones family and as loved as if they were blood. You're bound to be heartbroken. I know I will be when Zac goes. Well done for not picking the first dog you saw at the shelter. Keep going back and I'm sure you'll find your new pal. X
Don't be sorry conne. It's natural to feel pain when you lose a loved one, be that a person or your fur baby... Don't rush anything, the right dog will come along, just give it a little time and accept a Hug from me. xxxx
Shhhh, that's what we're here for, conne...you rant all you like. I know that awful feeling, you can't understand why the earth hasn't stopped in its tracks

Mr Harv was the one only truly thing I ever owned and possessed and loved.
I am so sorry that I have only just read this about your loss of Mr Harv.
It is devastating and you will grieve for a good while. Try and talk to people who understand, like here, it's not ranting and it's normal.
One day at a time x
Jenny it is always heartbreaking when your pet dies, it takes a while to get used to them not being there. Give yourself time to grieve and then when you feel happy and calm enough to look for a new friend go back to the shelter again. It sounds as though he was a wonderful companion to you but alas they don't outlive you.

The phone has just rung and it is my sister - I did not answer cos I just can't cry to her over a dog when she has lost a son. No way.

I know this will pass.
It is perfectly natural to be heartbroken and it may be too soon to give your heart to another four legged friend but maybe have a wander to the shelter now and then and who knows, you may fall in love.

Take care Conne.xxx
conne.. you are going through a grieving procss and hurting badly..that is normal and your beloved Mr Harv deserves a few tears... after a bit ..big breaths...look back with fondess give thanks ..and share your love again ....

I am just wondering since he had the tumour some time ago a year and half ago should I have let the vets tried to remove it and give Mr Harv some more time to live.
You've lost your best friend, Jenny...a best friend that just happened to be canine. Only time will help your loss become easier to bear, although it won't feel like that right now.

There is a lovely poem that someone posted on AB...I wasn't going to post it just yet, but as you have thought about rehoming another poor dog in need, I will find it and re-post it.

been there JJ be kind to yourself and give yourself time x
Grieve - it's a natural progression - get angry, that's natural too but most of all treat your loss in any way you want to - and jennyjoan don't feel guilty for feeling heartbroken.....why shouldn't you.
