It hasn't much fur there so I can see there's no sign of a tick or any kind of a wound. Any thoughts?

Worms or some other stomach problem?
Dry skin? Fleas? They don't have to be riddled with them for an allergy to errupt. Then they seem to get into the scratch itch cycle.

I'll have a search for its medical records and see when it last got a worm tablet and phone the vet tomorrow for an appointment.

It could be fleas. I was petting a cat that comes into the garden and got a few bites.
Ah, that sounds like the answer sandy. If it gets bad you can give dogs piriton but only if you've checked with your vet first.

A good bit of info there, Danny. Missy is due her annual check up soon. I'll bring it forward a few weeks and phone the vet for an appointment.
Although I have had dogs - but truly what does a worming tablet do.
