About 1730 tonight I had to take Kim, our Dobie *** (Female Dog) to the Vet to be PTS. She was diagnosed with an illness some time ago and went downhill very quickly from Thursday of last week through the weekend. She was a Rescue, we got her in mid 2008 when she was about 2½ years old, so we had her for about 7 years, and she made it to 9½ - 10 years so far as we know.
She settled in very quickly and very well with us and Eddy, the big fellow in my Avatars who's a year older, never had any problems, she walked in, said 'Righto I'm the Boss' and it was sorted! Based on our experience with her I would suggest anyone wanting a Dog has a serious look at their local Rescues, she was one of the nicest Dogs we've ever had. Those who know me will realise that both my Wife and myself are absolutely gutted.

'Absent Friends' it is!

Eddy appears to have gone to sleep so I'm going to slide the Lappy onto the side table and see if I can do the same.
'night all!
PS.
I can only raise a glass of Sainsbury's basic Gin but what the hell , with a dash of Angastora bitters I can't tell the difference any way.
Don't suppose I would be approved of in the mess but that is the story of my life (especially here) :-)
PPS
Do you know what? I just looked up and noticed I had filled my glass with b....dy Soda water. Thought it tasted funny. May be Mitchell had a point when he described the woodentops as p...s. A drumhead court martial will be in the offing. Yuck what a waste. :-(
It never gets any easier, to say goodbye to a beloved pet ....you have my sincere condolences Baldy and I'll be thinking of you all, take care :)
My condolences to you - you gave her life and she gave you love and loyalty. Take care of yourselves and Eddy.

Thank you all. A new day now, a few things to sort out. The Big Guy finally settled about 0200 so we both got a few hours kip in the lounge but not going to make a habit of it, he'll adjust, hopefully.
Sad times...but very good memories Baldric...chin up, both of you.
Only just saw this Baldric, what sad news, I'm so sorry. Losing a much loved pet is awful, like losing a member of the family xx
From one dog lover to another, you have my sympathies and condolences. Pets are like a family member, only better. True friends leave paw prints on your heart.
They come to give us love & devotion & leave us in tears. RIP Kim.♥

Thanks Margo and BS. Thought it had gone a bit quiet here, just had a look in the Lounge, the Big Guy has sneaked up on the settee, (naughty boy!) and is sleeping like a baby, flat on his back with his feet in the air. think I'll leave him to it for a while.
Nice of you to think of other dogs wanting homes when you are so upset Baldric - sign of a true animal lover.
Retrocop I was the same when one of my dogs died, the one I'd had the longest out of all of them. I cried more over him than when my father died.
And how lovely of the vet to give you Forget-me Not seeds. All I got was a bill!
I think AB is at its best when someone loses a beloved pet, such great support, kind words and sympathy. I know it helped me and I think it's helping Baldric.

It is, for sure, just nice to know you're not alone!
I have a lump in my throat reading your loss as I know exactly how you feel . I had my faithful lab put to sleep 5 years ago and I still, feel his loss at times . I light a candle beside his photo when I think about him .there is also a poem called rainbow bridge that you can find here the words are comforting .just look up poems for dogs .
Question Author

Thanks Wendy,
Have come across The Rainbow Bridge many times, not for me I'm afraid, I can see how it could help some people though, and I hope I've not offended you.
Apologies Baldric, I'd missed this for some reason.

My condolences to you on your sad loss.

RIP Kim.
No offence taken baldric . There is other lovely poems there . I could never bring myself to have another . My kids blue staffies are here lots . . Love them both and so good natured...I admire people that take rescue dogs but I am getting too old for that now .
Question Author

Thanks LiK, appreciated.

We will be going down the rescue route again Wendy, but not while we still have Eddy, he's had enough changes.
I'm with you on the poems Baldric, not for me either.
