R I P Kim, You'll Be Missed!

About 1730 tonight I had to take Kim, our Dobie *** (Female Dog) to the Vet to be PTS. She was diagnosed with an illness some time ago and went downhill very quickly from Thursday of last week through the weekend. She was a Rescue, we got her in mid 2008 when she was about 2½ years old, so we had her for about 7 years, and she made it to 9½ - 10 years so far as we know.
She settled in very quickly and very well with us and Eddy, the big fellow in my Avatars who's a year older, never had any problems, she walked in, said 'Righto I'm the Boss' and it was sorted! Based on our experience with her I would suggest anyone wanting a Dog has a serious look at their local Rescues, she was one of the nicest Dogs we've ever had. Those who know me will realise that both my Wife and myself are absolutely gutted.

Sorry for your loss Badric, have just gone through the same with one of mine this weekend. Totty was the smallest of my Lancashire Heelers, yet was top dog of the whole pack. She had been poorly for a few days, not eating well, even the tastiest titbits made her turn her nose up which was very unusual. At the weekend I was away with my work and the dogs came with me to a log cabin on the Norfolk coast. She shared my bunk for the last three nights and just went downhill rapidly on Sunday. Vet diagnosed a large mass in her stomach so there was no question of what we had to do for her. She now rests in a graveyard with her mum and uncle which belongs to a friend who converted a church. Its very quiet round here and the others haven't yet had a ballot for the position of top dog! We have such wonderful memories of them, its hard not to remember the naughty times with a smile.

Lankeela, sorry to hear your sad news as well, it's never easy, we just do our best for them as and when.

Went back earlier in the day to settle the Bill.
In no way is this a complaint, she was handled gently and kindly by people she knew and trusted, me, the Vet who has always been her Vet, and the usual Vet's Assistant.
She was a big Girl, not overweight, just big, and weighed in at 50 Kgs.
The Bill, £130+,
I don't begrudge it in any way, for what they did, they did her proud, but Ouch!!!

what are you planning for her resting place, Baldric, your garden or a cremation and a wall? I prefer the former, it's more personal.....

We're built into a steepish slope DTC, it's solid, you'd have to blast a hole in it, so it's down the cremation route I'm afraid, although not first choice.

To give you an idea, our Lounge, Dining Area and Kitchen are 1st floor at the front and ground floor at the rear.

Oh baldric, how I feel for you and your wife. It's awful to go through the loss of a much loved pet.We still misses Clyde every day inspite of our new addition Hector. On the upside you gave Kim a wonderful life, & like you I also support dogs in rescue with dobies being our favourite dog.
Thinking of you, my wife sends a hug for you both.

Only just seen this post Balders, really sorry to hear of your loss. Utterly heartbreaking when your pets leave you isn't it?

Sorry for your loss. Never easy. Lost mine 19 months ago. I do have another now. Lost another 5yrs ago. One is in the garden and one was cremated. Not sure which I prefer but their is a rosebush for each of them. Remember me and Never forgotten. Always will remember and never forget

Like the Rosebush idea, will give that some thought.
