Cat hygiene Problem

I have two cats. One is fine (although a bit of a bully) but the other one has suddenly started to poo in the dining room overnight. She has access to a catflap at all times and to a litter tray in the conservatory. I have cleaned the carpet thoroughly several times. She will go for days without doing it and then, for several days on the trot, I have to clear it up. Any ideas?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like there may be a reason why she doesn't like going out, maybe because of another cat? It also sounds like that is where she feels safe. Have you tried leaving her at night so that she can get to the conservatory and/or the cat flap at night and shut all other doors off for a while? It is odd though if she is not peeing in doors? How old is she?

yeah there is a reason. cats are very clean so when they do this you know theres a prob.
you need togo back to when it started, like did you have probs were you stressed?. have you decorated anywhere?, have you been away? i know it sounds silly that they would do this because of these reasons but they dont like change.
or as the other person has said could be a cat outside. see if a new cat is around. but i would also take her to the vets to get her checked to make sure its not medical.

I have the same problem with one of my cats, and she usually does it in the dining room overnight too. She has a weak stomach, and although she could get to the litter tray, I think when she is in distress she wants somewhere different to go, or maybe can't get to the litter tray in time and been "cought short". I have found no solution, but you should check with the vet to see she has a sensitive tummy? We have special food to give her if she needs it.
It's most definitely something to do with them being distressed instead of attention seeking!

Thanks for the advice - it seems to have stopped again now. She seems to do it for a few days, then stops for a couple of months just to lull you into a false sense of security, then starts again! I'll pop her along to the vets to check it out and look out for new cats on the block. Thanks again.

Hi, One of my cats keep doing the same thing. I have 4 cats and its the oldest one who is 15. She seems ok eating and drinking and can really move when she wants to, however she also keeps going a poo in another room, it seems likes she knows what she is doing because when she has done it, she will come into another room and look at you as if to say I could'nt be bothered to go out, so I've left something for you to clear up. The same thing as yours, nothing for a few days then wallop! 3 or 4 on the trot. How did you get on at the vet? and what did they advise?
