My daughter has two gorgeous gerbils and what I was wondering is what can they be given to chew and play with. We have lots of fir cones around where I work, but don't know if these would be poisionous to them. Any ideas would be really welcome, don't want them getting bored!

Thanks

hi you can give them willow twigs, tolet rolls, small cardboard boxes that you can put treats in. i dont think you can put cones in. but they can have brown acorns, but make sure they are dry. you can also give them fruit tree twigs. see if you can find a gerbil club website. they normally give you loads of ideas what you can do.
The website is www.petwebsite.com/gerbils/gerbils htm Im sure you will find plenty of info on this site with regard to food and treats ect.Pleased you are thinking about their state of mind, this makes alot of sense for our caged pet pals, good luck and happy gerbils

Excellent advice, thank you both so much, have learned loads when I should have been working, but they are cute so it is worth it!
You are right-they need plenty chewing material! My hamster used to gnaw through twigs in seconds! Places like Wilkinson sell wooden "flavoured" fruit-shaped chews, and big seed bars. I am sure they are suitable for gerbils as they were for hamsters and other small animals.
