we're going on holiday soon and trying to decide whether to put her in a cattery. when we last went on holiday for a few days we left her at home and someone came in to feed her everyday. she didnt mind and was fine when we got back to normality (tho we did have another cat then, but she's since gone). i think cats aren't the same as dogs and are quite happy to be on there own, but what do you folks do when you go on hols?
Hi hotpink. I have 2 cats and I also work as a pet carer. Part of my job involves visits to cats left alone by owners. They are always really pleased to see me when I call in and like to have the company for the short time I can give them. But I think that cats are fine to be left alone. I'd rather my cats stayed at home and had visits than went into a cattery. They are happiest in their own surroundings.
I'd rather know my cat was safe and secure in a cattery when I went away. I have also worked as a home pet sitter
and cats always used to give me the run around and would shoot out through the door as I went in. I spent many hours trying to coax a cat back in so I could go home and leave it shut in. I daren't leave them out in case they got run over, lost, or shut in someone's shed.
Id say deffo the cattery....you'll know your cat is safe at all times and being looked after..Otherwise what if someone forgets to feed her or cant make it for some reason, or she gets locked out, or locked in, what if theres a fire or something happens to her whilst out and she needs you when she gets home and your not there, or she gets sick...??
Its a little holiday for your cat to whilst your away an you can enjoy yourself without worrying at all xx
I also work occasionally as a pet carer and have never had any problems with cats. The cats which seem timid when I go to meet them while the owners are there are often the most friendly once the owners are away and cats generally seem to be happier in their own home. I always have emergency contact details, vets etc. As for what might happen when there was no-one around the same things could happen while you were at work. However if you are unsure at all try to visit the cattery and find out what they offer, also ask around for recommendations. Personally I would leave mine at home.
she's an indoor cat, so i know she wouldn't get locked out or seriously hurt herself. its my in laws who will be coming to check on her every day so they know all the vets details and will sort things out if anything does happen. i think i feel better now about it, we'll leave her in the house and buy her some catnip when we get back from holiday as a present. (tho i won't buy it from abroad, lol, i could be buying anything!)
I think that it depends on your cat's nature. I plan to leave mine for one night when I go to a wedding - any longer and they would demolish the place or beat each other up.
My friend used to leave his cat for a week or so and his mum would visit and feed him, but the cat was a wreck when my friend got home.
They tried it again and this time his mum took her ironing over, put the tv on and stayed there and did stuff whilst interacting with Oscar. This was the ideal situation.
My two are indoor cats - but they are evil demolition experts. And I love them to bits.
happy hols anyway!!! she will be fine with family looking after her...she's gonna hate it though, but would hate the cattery to so you cant win really! :-) XX
Sounds like she'd be happiest at home and as it's relatives who will be caring for her she should be fine, it's a problem we have solved by never going on holiday, but I wouldn't recommend that!
i have 2 cats and leave mine at home. my neighbour comes in twice a day to feed them and as they have a flap in the back door they can come and go as they please. i used to do it when i just had the one cat and he seemed fine. cats are very hardy things and dont pine like dogs do
