Big, clumsy, short lived, expensive to feed and rear corrrectly as puppies and adults, do large poos, need bigger dog beds, bigger kennels if you ever go away, bigger vehicle to transport them, more expensive to treat at vets, liable to gastric torsion (bloat) which is life threatening, need stronger collars and leads, in fact everything about them is bigger and more expensive! They can however be great fun to live with and if bred correctly are great with people and other dogs.
I have recently lost my 11 year old Dane, he was all that Lankeela says....and more....lol He was by far the best dog that I have ever been owned by. One thing to add to Lankeelas list....when they go, they leave a hole bigger than the moon :o[
aww bless. my friend used to have one and it was so lovely and friendly and gentle and they do look absolutley gorgeous! pets are great because they all have their own personalities... they're our children and they can't be replaced.
Just got my 11 & 12 Great dane,Had them for 40 years and I love them.Agree with Lankeela they are expensive to feed, vets bills etc,but I can honestly say in all my years I have never had a GD that needed expensive vet treatment, and never had one with bloat.Could be luck of the draw.
They make up for there large appetites with total love and devotion.Great with people and children,if bred right.People think they are not very bright but I could tell you otherwise.
