Rabbit with Uterine Cancer

I have a 6 year old female rabbit who was bleeding and was spayed yesterday. Her uterus was very enlarged. The vet said it is uterine cancer. I have done a lot of research on the subject and have read that if the cancer has not yet spread, then the prognosis is fairly good. However, my vet said that "It didn't seem to have spread" but she told me that the rabbit will only live 3-6 months. I am confused about this if it has not spread as far as she knows. She told me that because it is cancer it will spread. Every bit of literature that I have researched suggests that this time of cancer is a slow to progres cancer. How could the vet tell me my rabbit will die in 3-6 months if she doesn't know if it has spread or not? Are there different types of uterine cancer in rabbits? I appreciate your time. Thank you.

I am afraid I can not offer any advice. But, I am very sorry to hear your Rabbit is so poorly. You have my sympathy for what it is worth.

I am so sorry your rabbit is poorly. The vet doesn't seem to be much use here, but I know from my own experience that the medical care of rabbits is an unknown science. I had a female rabbit spayed when she was six months old and the vet ar*ed up her operation. She bled to death and I still wake up having nightmares about it even now (5 years later). I took the best advice I thought I could get and still this happened.
The good news is that the uterus has been taken out, you spotted something was wrong and are obviously a caring pet owner. Your rabbit is six years old, which is a great age for a rabbit. My advice would be to give this little poppet the best quality of life that you can from this point on. I think the vet is probably just trying to prepare you for the worst, if that happens, as rabbits are such sensitive little souls. I wish I'd had my time again, I would have done things very differently. Let us know how bunny gets on, please? xx
