How long should you leave the light on in a tank? I switch ours on quite early in the morning and leave it until quite late in the evening. My husband says it is making the water too warm for the fish and could harm them.
Should the light not be on so long ?

Even though though the fish you keep have never experienced a "natural life", you should try to keep things as close to their natural environment as possible.

So, in the tropics, there's usually around 12 hours day, 12 hours night. Any more than that and you can get algea issues.

Why not buy a cheap timer from Argos and put the lights to come on at 10 or 11 am and go off at the equivilent pm.

Good luck

Many thanks
with a tropical fish tank you are trying to creat a realistic habbitat for your fish. with my tropical fish tank i turn it on when its light out sied then turn it of when its dark out side. i dont think having a light on to much could harm the fish in any way but could induce algae growth.
